ROGERS RETURNS AS COACH ROGERS RETURNS AS COACH
Wes Rogers has returned as Rangers first team coach after Sean Whitehead and Paul Ashton stepped down.
Two stalwarts of the club, the pair steered the team back from the days of the pandemic and have been at the helm for two and a half seasons. Jonnie Horton, who’s assisted them throughout, has also decided to step down.
It’s been a difficult period for open age sport in general but under their guidance the team secured some memorable victories, not least this season in the Challenge Cup at Edinburgh and the incredible comeback at home to Waterhead.
The trio were also instrumental in reviving our Under 18s team when they took on that job aswell as the open age in their first season while Ashy has been a big support to junior teams at the club.
Club Chairman, Karen Thompson, said; “I’d personally like to thank them for their efforts on behalf of the club over the last two and a half years. They’ve made a huge contribution to Rangers in their time in charge and we’re in a better place than we were when they started.”
The club can now confirm that Wes Rogers has agreed to take on the role of first team coach for the remainder of the season and was at training last night ahead of Saturday’s away game at Dewsbury Celtic.
Karen said; “We’re now poised to kick on again under Wes and we’re excited to see how this next chapter unfolds.”
Wes has had two previous stints coaching open age at Rangers and has also been assistant coach at Swinton Lions.
